Timber Cladding

Flint Architects latest new build project, Castle View has been featured by SiOO:X, discussing the treatment of the timber cladding

SiOO:X Impregnation has an extensive range of application. It is used across all wood types – softwoods, hardwoods and engineered woods.  The timber cladding at Castle View was treated with the mid-grey coating.

The project aimed to use a similar colour palette to the grey flint of Berkhamsted Castle, subtly referencing its colours in the design, including the grey brick, zinc, and timber cladding. A key requirement of the brief was ensuring a uniform appearance as the timber aged, which was achieved using SiOO:X Mid Grey. The silicon coating begins curing as soon as it is applied, but provides an almost immediate grey tone, reaching its final consistent weathered look in 2-3 years. The main benefit for this project was that the treatment prevents differential weathering, especially important for Castle View’s overhangs and deep reveals.
